LIMA, PERU

The Lima Missions Team seeks to partner with churches in Lima, Peru and is currently connected with the churches of Huaycan, Amauta, Santa Anita, and Salamanca.  The vision of our partnership is to plant local churches and raise local leaders who will minister to the spirit as well as the physical needs of the people.  These local churches are spreading the Gospel of Grace through prayer, fellowship, and acts of mercy and justice, with a focus on caring for the children.

AMAUTA (Ah-MOW-tah)

This is the poorest community we are connected to in Lima.  Our mission trip in 2006 came alongside children and adults to help plant the seeds for a church led by Peruvian pastor Robinson.  We ministered to 120 children and some adults in an 18’ x 30’ space with a dirt floor and thatch walls.  Amauta has no electricity or running water.  Small 10’ x 15’ houses, made of brick or plywood, are built on the sides of dirt hills.  The population is approximately 100,000, with many widows, single moms and orphans.

Currently the church consists of Sunday school and bible study, and they are praying to purchase a building where the church can meet for worship services and be a place of refuge in Christ for many.

HUAYCAN (WHY-cahn)

This is another very poor community in Lima.  The church, started by Peruvian pastor Adrian, is the most established of the four churches we are currently working with.  Pastor Adrian now oversees the churches of Huaycan, Amauta and Santa Anita.

With our partnership, the Huaycan church began a mercy and justice ministry called the CRISTO SALVADOR project.  Reyna Fernandez (Pastor Adrian’s wife) leads the ministry with the desire to walk with a small number of very poor and often abused children from a young age into the teen years.  They receive much love, a meal each day (often the only one), schooling, tutoring, bible instruction and limited health care.  This is one of the main ministries we support as a church.
