NEW CITY FELLOWSHIP of NAIROBI

St. Lazarus School, Kibera

Planted by Joseph and Elfi Muutuki, New City Fellowship of Nairobi is a multi-cultural church that preaches the Gospel of grace and seeks to reconcile the native Kenyan and Asian Indian communities.  Joseph was a founding elder of New City Fellowship of St. Louis.  After competing seminary and returning home to Nairobi, he was convicted by the Spirit to address the division between the native Kenyan and Asian Indian communities.

One of the mercy ministries of New City Fellowship of Nairobi is St. Lazarus School.  Rachel Lomosi is the founder and executive director.  The recently formed local board of directors is chaired by Mohanjeet Brar.  Located in Kibera, the largest urban slum in sub-Saharan Africa, the school's mission is to reach children with the love of Christ.  Many of the children in Kibera are orphans or simply left to fend for themselves.  St. Lazarus is a refuge in the midst of destitute poverty.

Along with the education the children are receiving, they are also fed 1 to 2 meals a day and receive medical attention.  With rampant malnutrition, infectious diseases, and HIV/AIDS, the feeding and health ministries of the school are critical.  The Nairobi Missions Team of New City Fellowship of St. Louis leads a U.S. supervisory board and continues to pursue church partners to aid in oversight and financial support of St. Lazarus.  Current supervisory board partners include Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church (Chattanooga) and The James Project.
