The Least of
These Children’s Ministry
(LTCM) was developed to connect churches and individuals with the
spreading of God’s love, justice and mercy to orphans and under-privileged
children in some of the most destitute areas of the world. LTCM partners
with national pastors across the globe to supply food, medical care and
schooling to children living in countries devastated by AIDS, hunger, extreme
poverty, and war.

MAY, 2007 -- New City Fellowship Missions work in Congo

“What do you mean ‘a self-sustaining clinic in the slums’? We can’t even do that
in the U.S.!” With wonder, Tim Rice MD questioned the doctor in the slums of
Nairobi, Kenya in 2004. As Tim began to hear how clinics could be run utilizing
nurse practitioners, church volunteers, a defined scope of practice, and
low-cost medications, an idea was born. Fast forward to May 2007, Democratic
Republic of Congo.
Building on relationships that Leon Mukindi has with local pastors, NCF has
developed an ongoing relationship with eight local churches in Congo. Tim was
asked to return to Congo for two weeks to help establish clinics for the poor.
Working with Congolese Christian leaders and nurses, we adapted the model seen
in Kenya to meet local needs. These clinics are to serve the poor in the
community and to especially address the needs of families that have taken
orphans into their own homes to raise.
New City Fellowship Missions budget supports three endeavors in Kinshasa, the
capital of Congo. When you participate in giving to the missions program, you
are supporting these and other mercy ministries around the world.
Currently, $1240/month is channeled through eight local churches to provide
food, education and
basic health care for 54 orphans. The Congolese Christian leaders have
identified a site near many of these families to build a simple two-room clinic
in this part of town.
When
completed, a Congolese child or adult can see a health professional for one
dollar. This fee is equivalent to one day’s wages or the price of three pieces
of fruit. For twenty cents, patients can get a month’s supply of medicine. These
fees sustain the clinic by paying the receptionist and nurse practitioner and
restocking the pharmacy. Since returning from Congo, an additional $5,000 has
already been donated to construct this clinic building.
We are collaborating with the Congolese leaders to identify a third site in
another part of the city where we support orphans. The final start-up cost of
this clinic has not been determined, but we are continuing to raise funds for
this clinic.
God is at work around the world and has invited NCF to partner in seeing His
Kingdom advance in Congo. We are privileged to respond in faith by taking tiny
steps of obedience and watching Him accomplish His purposes. Find more
